Co-Chair of the European Union-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee Milan Cabrnoch Meets with the NA Factions

On October 31 the Delegation led by the Co-Chair of the European Union-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (PCC) Milan Cabrnoch had meetings with the representatives of the NA factions Hovhannes Sahakyan (Secretary of the RPA) and Ruzanna Muradyan (member of the RPA), Naira Zohrabyan (Secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party), Levon Zurabyan (Head ANC), members of the Rule of Law faction, Aghvan Vardanyan (Secretary of the ARF), and Zaruhi Postanjyan (Head of the Heritage) and Tevan Poghosyan (Secretary of the Heritage).

During the meetings the sides discussed the perspectives of Armenia-European Union and Armenia-Customs Union cooperation, the EU support to the implemented reforms in different spheres in Armenia. The representatives of the Armenian side realize quite well the importance and necessity of the European integration.

Milan Cabrnoch highly assessed the EU-Armenia cooperation during the three and a half years and the negotiations connected with the Association Agreement, which were interrupted by the turn in Armenia’s policy. According to him, we should find a way in the created political situation, and the EU is ready to support the reforms going on in Armenia.

The sides discussed the issues regarding the continuity of dialogue with the European community, highlighting the combating against corruption, human rights, democracy, free elections, rule of law and the reforms made in the justice system.

The opposition party (ANC) representative has noted that Armenia still has unsolved problems regarding the freedom of speech, democracy, human rights and elections. According to him, in case of continuation and development of the European Union – Armenia cooperation Armenia will be able to solve the problems.

Milan Cabrnoch has noted that the EU respects Armenia’s decision and expressed willingness to continue the cooperation in new conditions. “Armenia is a key partner in the region for us,” Milan Cabrnoch noted.

The sides also touched upon the enlargement of bilateral cooperation and the rapprochement of the parliamentary relations, noting the dynamic development of Armenia-EU relashionship, the PACE last Resolution connected with Nagorno Karabakh.

Milan Cabrnoch has mentioned that the EU will continue the support in a number of programmes.

The sides also referred to regional developments and the settlement of the NK problem, and the PCC Co-Chair has expressed regret for no progress has been registered and has noted that the EU would support the OSCE Minsk Group to find ways in the peaceful settlement of the NK conflict.
