On October 6 the Vice President of the National Assembly received the representatives of the indigenous peoples of Caucasus, who took part in the Forum entitled “Indigenous Peoples of Caucasian-Caspian Region” held in Armenia.
In the course of the meeting issues concerning the national identity of ethnic minorities having statehood, protection of human rights, rights of free move, education and preventing the ethnic cleansings.
According to Eduard Sharmazanov and Levon Melik-Shahnazaryan, coordinator of conference works, expert of national minorities, the Armenian people understands very well the national minorities’ issues, as the Armenians spread all over the world have encountered such problems and continue to encounter in a number of countries. That is the very reason that the national minorities of Armenia make use of the rights prescribed in the international laws, and reserved to national minorities.
Albert Esedov and Feyzuddin Naziyev have said that in Azerbaijan the Lezgis’ rights are not only ignored, but everything is done to boost the ethnic cleansings: 1.5mln Lezgis are deprived of elementary rights, they don’t even have the right to get education in their mother tongue, as there is no Lezgi school in Azerbaijan. In that country a policy of annihilating the national minorities is pursued. The delegates were demanding protection of national rights based on human values, but as they don’t have an opportunity to make aware of those problems to the international community, they asked the Armenian MPs to alarm about that in international organizations.
According to Vagif Kerimov, their mutual understanding with the Armenian people is conditioned by historical and served injustice, hence they understand very well the Nagorno Karabakh problem and welcome the Armenian people’s efforts aimed at the independence of Artsakh.
The NA Vice President conditioned the solution of the raised problems by active cooperation and expressed readiness to speak out loud the fact of blustering out the national minorities’ discrimination in international organizations of Azerbaijan.
