On November 15, the delegation led by the RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan met with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar Al-Assad.
Thanking the President of the Arab Republic of Syria for the invitation and warm reception, the RA NA Vice President noted that Armenia highlights and highly appreciates the friendly warm relations with Syria and underscored the special significance of the Armenian community as a stable bridge of friendship between the two countries and peoples.
Touching upon the Syrian crisis, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament mentioned that from the first day of the crisis Armenia was in favour of solving the problem through a dialogue to preserve the sovereignty, peace and security of Syria.
During the meeting, speaking in detail about the situation created in the South Caucasus region Hakob Arshakyan presented the idea of the Crossroads of Peace proposed by Armenia, stressing the importance of the roadmap for peace in the region.
The NA Vice President expressed conviction that the Armenian-Syrian cooperation has great potential of development and expansion, and Armenia is ready to support the development of Armenia-Syria mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of our friendly peoples.
The President of the Syrian Arab Republic highly assessed the friendly relations between Armenia and Syria and underlined the role of the Armenian community in the development of cultural, economic and other spheres of Syria.
“Syria considers Armenians part of its state, society and value system. The problems of Armenia are not alien to us, and we stand next to Armenia in overcoming problems and challenges,” Bashar al-Assad said.
He emphasized the inter-parliamentary cooperation, which has consistently been at a high level and plays a key role in the development of cooperation between the two states.
At the end of the meeting that went on in warm and friendly atmosphere the interlocutors wished peace and prosperity to the Armenians and Syrian brotherly peoples.
