On October 21-26 in the Quebec City of Canada the RA NA Delegation also took part in the works of the 127th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly. On October 30, at the press conference held in the National Assembly the Head of the Delegation Karen Chshmaritian and the member Heghine Bisharyan presented the outcomes of the works of the Assembly.
In the Assembly, where about 2000 delegates from the parliaments of 130 countries had debated the items: “Citizenship, identity and linguistic and cultural diversity in a globalized world” and “Special gender partnership session on gender-sensitive parliaments”. During the debate of the first item Heghine Bisharyan has delivered a speech and has touched upon the speech of the Head of the Azerbaijani Delegation I. Aliyev, where the latter has praised the policy pursued by Azerbaijan towards the national minorities and had announced that 30.000 Armenians live in Azerbaijan, and the Armenian forces have occupied the 20 per cent of the country. Mrs Bisharyan has informed the participants of the Assembly about the policy pursued by that country, the extradition of Ramil Safarov to Azerbaijan by the Hungarian authorities, the criminal’s heroizing by Azerbaijan, as well as the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and our Diaspora compatriots.
Heghine Bisharyan noted that after her speech the opposition MP, the member of the Hungarian Delegation had approached her, and apologizing her in the name of the Hungarian people, had informed her that the Head of their Delegation wished to meet with the Armenian Delegation. During the meeting the Head of their Delegation Laslo Horvat, who two years had been hosted in Armenia, had also apologized for the murderer’s extradition and had proposed to try restoring the diplomatic relations between Hungary and Armenia at the level of the deputies’ mutual visits. In relation to this issue the Head of the Delegation Karen Chshmaritian has noticed that restoration of frozen diplomatic relations is not envisaged yet, as that has its procedures.
The members of the Delegation said that the Head of the Delegation Karen Chshmaritian by the presentation of Eurasia, one of the six geopolitical groups functioning in the staff of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, had been elected member of the Executive Committee and Vice President of the Union.
In the meeting of the Executive Committee the request of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in written form on holding the next IPU Assembly in 2014 had been refused. According to the members of the Armenian Delegation, our Deputy’s speech had also promoted the refusal, where the regional problems and the real policy pursued by Azerbaijan had been presented.
