On October 15 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan received the Chairman of the Riga Duma Neil Ushakov.
Touching upon the Armenian-Latvian relations the NA President documented with satisfaction the dynamic development of the relationship during the recent period between Armenia and Latvia, which witnessed the reciprocal interest of further strengthening the bilateral relations and the willingness of more deepening them. Reserving a special place in the Armenian-Latvian cooperation to the parliamentary relations, Hovik Abrahamyan expressed conviction that the activation of inter-parliamentary cooperation was important for rapprochement of bilateral relations, using all the possible formats of cooperation. In this context the NA President highlighted the activity of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups and noted with satisfaction that the Parliamentary Friendship Group shaped in the Latvian Parliament with 30 MPs is the biggest among the functioning Friendship Groups. Hovik Abrahamyan considered important the reinforcement and cooperation of relations between Yerevan and Riga in different spheres. The NA President deemed necessary the cooperation between the local self-government bodies and the implementation of concrete programmes.
Thanking for the reception the Chairman of the Riga Duma noted that the goal of the visit was to strengthen Riga-Yerevan cooperation. Mr Ushakov presented to the President of the Parliament the spheres of cooperation between the two cities and the agreements reached with the Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan over the further cooperation. He expressed conviction that established cooperation between the two cities would have its role in the development of relations between the two countries and peoples. The Mayor of Riga deemed important the development of inter-parliamentary relations, the activation of bilateral contacts and economic cooperation.
