On November 14 RA NA President Mr Hovik Abrahamyan received the newly appointed Ambassador of Estonia to Armenia Mr Toomas Lukk.
NA President Mr Hovik Abrahamyan congratulated the Ambassador on the occasion of his appointment and expressed confidence that it would promote to male closer the inter-parliamentary relations of two countries, which in its turn would promote the development of inter-state relations in all spheres.
Congratulating the NA Speaker on the occasion of the election in the high post the Ambassador of Estonia to Armenia Mr Toomas Lukk ensured him that Estonia wishes to develop the relations with Armenia as far as possible, which have a history of hundreds of years. Estonians know very well the history of Armenia, past and present, and being a small country, they are interested in assisting for the progress of the other small state. Mr Lukk, as an Ambassador to Armenia, committed himself to promote the development of the inter-parliamentary relations, noting that after several mutual visits a discussion over the issue of deepening the ties with Armenia is envisaged in the Parliament of Estonia. Estonia is ready within the framework of the EU New Neighbourhood Policy to promote Armenia’s Euro-Integration, and considers the development of bilateral relations mutually beneficial.
NA President Mr Hovik Abrahamyan highlighted the experience of Estonia as a member country of the European Union, and the support of Estonia in the processes of Euro-integration. It was noted that the experience of Estonia and other Baltic countries in the ongoing reforms in Armenia had always been assessed and used, taking into account the local peculiarities. He also referred to the development of trade-economic and scientific-cultural ties, all opportunities of which existed. Mr Abrahamyan invited the President of the Estonian Parliament to Armenia on an official visit, noting that the mutual visits greatly promote the strengthening of the relations. The NA President attaches great importance also to the cooperation of the representatives of two parliaments. Referring to the regional issues the NA President reaffirmed Armenia’s willingness to establish diplomatic relations with Turkey without preconditions, noting that the RA President’s invitation to the Turkish President to watch the football match of the national teams was directed to the normalization of relations. Nevertheless, Turkey has not made any practical proposal on the opening of borders. In connection with the solution of the Nagorno Karabakh problem the Declaration signed by the three Presidents in Moscow was stressed, which confirms the necessity of solving the issue through peaceful way, negotiations.
According to the assessment of the Ambassador of Estonia to Armenia Mr Toomas Lukk, the OSCE Minsk Group has a big role in overcoming the conflict, and Estonia is ready to promote those processes.
