On April 5 the Parliamentarians’ Cooperation Group of on Consumers’ Rights Protection convened a sitting. The debate focused on the dangerous food staples and food issues.
The group consists of the representatives of parliamentarian factions and grouping. It has been functioning for about one and a half year under the coordination of Hrayr Karapetyan, ARF faction secretary. In the sphere of Consumers’ Rights Protection the parliamentarian grouping cooperates with NGOs.The Chairman of“ Consumers’ Rights Protection” NGO Abgar Yeghoyan presented their programs on the debated issue. According to the draft, the food is considered dangerous, which does not confront to requirements of normative documents and presented information, does not possess conformity certified documents, prescribed by law, does not have expiration date or expired, and is lack of brand name or does not possess information prescribed by law. The above mentioned principles, as well as in order to fix the requirements proposed by the programme “Europe: New Neighbourhood” the grouping, cooperating with the Ministry of Agriculture is planning to propose amendments to the Law on Food Security.
In Abgar Yeghoyan’s opinion, the cooperation with parliamentarians on the issue of Consumers’ Rights protection and pushing away poor quality food from the markets is valuable. As for the necessity of fighting with joint efforts the facts testify themselves.
The NGOs consider important the issue of providing necessary information to the society. The citizens can get exhaustive information on the food security from the government-submitted Consumers’ Rights protection guide under the title Useful Advice to Consumers.
Hrayr Karapetyan mentioned that they are going to present necessary steps on safe food security in the forthcoming four-days sittings. As for another not less important issue, that bothers consumers, on gas tariffs, ARF faction secretary believes, that it is not necessary to touch upon that issue, since there is no yet official viewpoint. On April 6 upon the parliamentarian information, the government is going to make a statement on the final gas tariff. And if the fixed prices are not justified, the Parliamentarians’ Cooperation Group will return to that problem.
