On June 24 RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan received the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ( UNHCR) Armenia Representative Bushra Halepota on the occasion of the completion of her mission.
RA NA Speaker highly assessed the assistance shown by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ( UNHCR) Armenia Representative to the Armenian refugees, who emigrated from Azerbaijan and the new flow of the refugees from Iraq, especially Mrs. Halepota’s warm attitude shown towards the Iraqi Armenians and the unprecedented assistance that UNHCR Armenia implemented providing possibilities of stay to the most vulnerable part. Mr. Abrahamyan thanked for the programs being implemented by UNHCR Armenia and multilateral assistance directed towards that vulnerable group. The NA Speaker noted that the process of the refugees’ support and integration needed continuous and consecutive work, and the Armenian authorities were willing to do its best from their side: supporting the refugees to integrate into our society and becoming their full member, as well as mitigating the possible consequences of economic crisis on this vulnerable group.
Mrs. Halepota thanked for the cooperation and support, as well as for the adoption of the new law On Refugees and Refuge, which will give opportunity to Armenia providing refuge in compliance with international standards to the claimants. She expressed hope that the cooperation between the RA National Assembly and UNHCR Representative will be continuous and from now on will also give its positive results.
