On June 3 RA National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan accompanied with the head of the RPA faction Galust Sahakyan and the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan visited the Center of the Handicapped Children and Youth of Prkutiun (Salvation) NGO.

The aim of the center is to promote the integration of the handicapped children and youth into the society, contribute to the teaching and achievement of their professional certain abilities through educational and social-cultural programmes. “The members of the center are children by fate, but they are adults, the youngest is 13 years old, and the oldest is 32, their number reaches 52. They represent all the communities of Yerevan, as the Center of such day care is the only one in Armenia,” the director of the Center Arpine Abrahamyan said. Elementary, teaching, needlework, painting and pottery function in the centre.

In February of this year in the building of RA National Assembly an exhibition of the works of the teenagers of the Disabled Children and Youth with Mental Disorders of Prkutiun (Salvation) NGO was organized, during which the Speaker of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan promised to visit the Center. The Speaker of the Parliament as an assistance to the Center allocated 500.000 drams, through which repairing work was done in the building of the center.

During his visit the Speaker of RA National Assembly walked around the center, got familiarized with the conditions, the everyday life of the children, the procedure of the lesson preparation, the classes being held in different groups.

“We want the child with mental problems live in a family, but not appear after school in the institution of special type or orphanage. We hope that the NA Speaker’s visit will bring essential change to the center. Today, we have problems connected with the payment of the communal expenditures, obtaining of stationery, the employees’ low salary,” the Director of the Center said.

In his word RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan noted that we should do everything that the children would fully integrate into the society. He called on all the businessmen to support the center. “It is everybody’s duty to support such centers. The employees of the center work patiently, compassionately and in an organized way. We as a power, should do everything to create possibilities for children in order to have time in normal conditions. We would try to add the economic expenditures and salaries agreeing with the Government,” The Speaker of RA National Assembly said.

In the word of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan, the Government does its best in order the child being in what health be in his/her house. According to him, steps are taken, as a result of which, today many handicapped people can work in serious organizations, as telephone stations, banks.

The children of the center greeted the guests with their recitation and songs, as well as small puppet show. They handed over a letter of acknowledgment and a souvenir to the NA Speaker for the attitude shown to the center.
