On July 14, the National Assembly debated in the first reading the draft law on Amending the Law on Diplomatic Service authored by the deputy of the Civil Contract Faction Vagharshak Hakobyan. It is proposed to rewrite Article 2.9 of the law, according to which, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia is appointed by the Prime Minister, on the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, from the number of persons with a diplomatic service experience in the system of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of at least 5 years and with the highest diplomatic rank.
According to the author, the law on Civil Service stipulates 4 years of public service or 5 years of professional experience for the Secretary General-Chief of Staff, and the Law on Diplomatic Service - 10 years of diplomatic service for the Secretary General, which narrows the range of candidates for this position. “The amendment to the law is very important for the further activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the deputy underlined.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Paruyr Hovhannisyan informed about the positive position of the Government.
The draft was adopted in the first reading.
