On December 2 the Speaker of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan received the world-renowned singer Placido Domingo.
Before the meeting in honour of the visit of the internationally acclaimed tenor the only Paros (beacon) Chamber Choir of the disabled persons performed one of the Komitas’ famous works in the National Assembly Park. The Spanish tenor thanked the choir members, noting that he was impressed by such reception. “This was a surprise for me. Be always in harmony with music because it unites people, creates new life. When every day you get up in harmony with music life seems so good. Go on like that,” Mr Domingo urged. The NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan made a surprise to the choir, inviting them to take part in the tomorrow’s upcoming concert of the world-renowned tenor, and Mr Domingo proposed them to jointly perform.
By the way, we’ll note that before the visit of the internationally famous tenor the NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan talked to the members of Paros Chamber Choir of the disabled persons and again made a donation to the choir on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Then the tête-à-tête conversation between the NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan and Placido Domingo was held.
Greeting the talented artist Hovik Abrahamyan said that the maestro's visit was a unique event in the cultural life of Armenia. According to the NA Speaker, the great singer has thousands of fans in Armenia, and this is the best opportunity for the Armenian music lovers to listen to high quality classical music. Hovik Abrahamyan’ proposed Placido Domingo to visit Armenia together with his other world-renowned singers and have a concert, among them will also be the great chansonnier Charles Aznavour, with whom Domingo had performed many times.
Placido Domingo thanked for the reception and noted that it was a great honour for him to be in a country having a history and traditions of millennium long and perform before the Armenian viewers. He gladly accepted the invitation of the Speaker of the National Assembly to visit again Armenia and perform with Charles Aznavour. The internationally famous tenor noted that he led Europa Nostra (Together in Europe) Association, which was involved in the restoration and conservation of the heritage of the world cultural values, expressing willingness to include the best historical-cultural values being in Armenia in the list of the Association.
