You are tomorrow, our future: The Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan said during the meeting with the students of the Faculty of International Relations of Yerevan State University on February 14.
Welcoming the future diplomats, the deputy presented the functions of the Committee, his authored legislative initiatives.
The students were interested in the developments of geopolitical events, the post-war problems, the captives’ return process, the programmes aimed the problems of our compatriots forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh.
Rustam Bakoyan noted: “The security of the country, the preservation of the sovereignty are the priorities of our agenda.”
The MP also spoke about the peace process, emphasizing the stable situation in the region.
He informed the students that the issue of the captives’ early return and the problem of preserving the sovereign territory of Armenia.
As a representative of national minority, the MP of the Yazidi community also spoke about the problems the national minorities come across. Rustam, Bakoyan highlighted the preservation of the Yazidi language and identity in the community, the Sinjar events as the recognition of the Yazidis’ genocide.
Answering the student’s question what support Armenia has got from the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), the deputy detailed that the CSTO is a strategic structure, and Armenia is also its member. According to him, the CSTO member states have certain obligations towards each other that the structure has not fulfilled.
During the meeting the high indicator of democracy in Armenia was spoken about.
From February 5 the students of YSU Faculty of International Relations are undergoing professional internship in parliament.
