On October 18, the NA President of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan received the delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway Anniken Huitfeldt being on an official visit in Armenia.
The sides discussed issues of mutual interest. The talk was mainly held over the necessary conditions promoting democracy and its development in Armenia. The RA NA President presented information on the aftermath of the last manifestation of the Azerbaijani aggression, noting that the withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the territory of Armenia is a priority. Alen Simonyan expressed hope that Norway as a leading country in the sphere of protection of human rights, will be consistent in condemnation of military crimes committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces, their fair trial and punishment of those guilty.
At the meeting the importance of the parliamentary diplomacy was also spoken about, due to which the countries succeed to voice problems demanding immediate solutions on the political and international platforms.
“The Armenian side is interested in boosting the political dialogue with Norway. I consider as a priority the activation of the inter-parliamentary relations. I am aware that there is no tradition of forming Friendship Groups in the Norwegian Parliament. However, I believe that we can find other formats of cooperation,” Alen Simonyan noted. In response the Foreign Minister of Norway added that we can stimulate the mechanisms of bilateral parliamentary cooperation, the collaboration of different international organizations on the parliamentary platforms and activate the mutual visits.
