On May 21 the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan received Nicolas Briec, Secretary of the External Relations of the European People’s Party, and Beatriz de Anta de Benito, Political Adviser.

Welcoming the guests the RA NA President has noted that the membership of the three parties of Armenia, the RPA, the Rule of Law and the Heritage to the European People’s Party (EPP) is important in terms of deepening of the RA-EU cooperation, spreading of the European political culture and strengthening of Pan-European value system. Galust Sahakyan has expressed confidences that in the elections of the European Parliament to be held in May the EPP will again enjoy the European’s high trust and will continue to remain the motivation force of Europe’s progress, the propagator and performer of reforms. In the NA President’s word, the European Union is one of the important partners of Armenia, and the EU-Armenia cooperation is first of all,based on common value system. “Armenia will continue its policy aimed at combination and harmonization of interests,” the NA President said.

Galust Sahakyan also has noted that the inter-parliamentary assemblies serve also as an important part of inter-party cooperation, and within that framework, the cooperation between the EPP member countries will boost the inter-party cooperation and will create a Pan-European coordinated network of the EPP united positions and viewpoints on political issues.

Thanking for the reception, Nicolas Briec, Secretary of the External Relations of the European People’s Party, has highlighted the further deepening of cooperation, noting that it is based on the common values and general Christian legacy. To his conviction, the National Assembly has a big role in the development of the EU-RA relations, and the development of cooperation will promote the deepening of the RA-EU cooperation of the national parliaments of the EU member countries and the European Parliament. The interlocutors highlighted the cooperation in a multilateral format of the Eastern Partnership in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.

In the course of the meeting the sides touched upon the concept of the RA constitutional amendments and other issues of bilateral interest.
