STATEMENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA

ON THE ARMED ATTACK OF AZERBAIJAN

On September 13, 2022 at 00:05, units of the Azerbaijani armed forces, using artillery, mortars and UAVs, opened intense fire at the Armenian positions located in several parts of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border at once. In particular, the positions located in the direction of Sotk, Vardenis, Goris, Kapan, Artanish and Ishkhanasar have been shelled. Both military and civilian infrastructure S are being hit. In some directions, the Azerbaijani units are taking actions of positional advancement in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.

In the current situation, we express our full support to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia in the sacred task of preserving the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia. We call on all political forces, our compatriots, regardless of political positions, to stay calm and unite around the Statehood. Our Homeland needs consolidated and strong protection.

We call on the international community to strongly and directly condemn the aggression unleashed by the military and political leadership of Azerbaijan against Armenia, the gross violations of the principle of prohibition of the use of force and the threat of force against territorial integrity set by the UN Charter.

We expect from the UN Security Council an immediate discussion of the created situation and implementation of actions stemmed from the situation.

We demand from the CSTO to implement immediate measures arising from the obligations assumed by the Collective Security Treaty aimed at preserving the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.

We appeal to the Russian Federation to urgently fulfill the obligations stipulated by the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation aimed at defending the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.
