On July 14, chaired by the RA NA President Alen Simonyan, the extraordinary sitting of the National Assembly was held. The issue of applying to the Constitutional Law on the issue of terminating the powers of 33 deputies of the NA Armenia and With Honor Factions was on the agenda of the sitting.
The NA President Alen Simonyan informed that according to Article 98.2 of the RA Constitution, the powers of the deputy are terminated during each calendar day, in case of dishonorable absence from at least half of the voting.
According to the reference on the participation of deputies in the voting at the sittings of the 8th convocation of the National Assembly in the first calendar semester of 2022, 33 deputies were absent from at least half of the voting that took place in the above-mentioned period. The NA President informed that the absent deputies were duly informed about the convening of an extraordinary sitting of the Council on the above-mentioned issue. In response, the Head of the Armenia Faction and the Secretary of the With Honor Faction, in a letter addressed to the members of the Council, informed that they refuse to participate in the sitting of the Council.
According to Article 156.5 of the Constitutional Law the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, in case of the absence of the deputy, the debate of the issue is postponed for one week and resumed at the sitting of the Council convened on the day following the expiration of the specified period, regardless of his/her absence.
