Hakob Arshakyan Receives Delegation Led by Head of Syria-Armenia Friendship Group of Syrian Parliament
1 / 4

On April 25, the RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan received the delegation led by the Head of the Syria-Armenia Friendship Group of the People’s Assembly of the Syrian Arab Republic Lucy Iskenian.

Welcoming the guests, the NA Vice President has noted that the Armenian people have the warmest feelings towards Syria, with which we are connected by historical and cultural generalities and centuries-old warm friendship. According to Hakob Arshakyan, Syria has been crucial in the history of the Armenian people. The friendly people of Syria helped hundreds of thousands of Armenians who escaped the Genocide.

Touching upon the situation created after the war unleashed by the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem against Artsakh, the NA Vice President stressed that Azerbaijan involved mercenaries from Syria and other states of the region through Turkey.

“Although a long time has passed since the signing of the trilateral statement on November 9, 2020, the situation continues to remain fragile. Azerbaijan continues provocative actions against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, endangering the stability and peace of the region,” Hakob Arshakyan has stated and added that Armenia continues its efforts to establish lasting peace in the region.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Syria. In the context of strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, Hakob Arshakyan underlined the role of inter-parliamentary cooperation, the activity of the Parliamentary Friendship Group. In this issue, the NA Vice President has also stressed the role of the Syrian-Armenian community and has added that our country highly appreciates the brotherly attitude of the Syrian authorities and people towards the Syrian-Armenians.

Lucy Iskenian also highlighted the deepening of the bilateral relations and conveyed the warm greetings of the Speaker of the Syrian Parliament to Hakob Arshakyan and the Armenian legislators.

Speaking about the regional situation, the Head of the Friendship Group said that Syria also felt the consequences of the actions carried out by the terrorists. She attached importance to the implementation of the agreements signed between the two countries, which was slowed down due to the Syrian crisis.

The member of the NA Armenia-Syria Friendship Group, the deputies of the Civil Contract Faction Rustam Bakoyan and Alkhas Ghazaryan spoke about the importance of expanding bilateral relations and stated the active support of the Armenian community in that issue. It has been emphasized that the Syrian-Armenian community is fully involved in the social and political life of the country.

The sides highlighted the efforts to establish lasting peace and stability in the region.
