On February 21, the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations convened an extraordinary sitting moderated by Eduard Aghajanyan.
As the deputy Andranik Tevanyan presented, the RA NA Draft Statement on Ratification of Shushi Declaration by Parliaments of Azerbaijan and Turkey authored by the Armenia Faction was debated.
“If we don’t respond to that document, it means we adopt the Shushi Declaration,” the MP said.
It has been noted that the Statement will be a message to the RA citizens, the Armenians throughout the world, the international community that in the security issues the Republic of Armenia has red lines and will not retreat from it.
Gurgen Arsenyan presented the viewpoint of the NA Civil Contract on the draft. He has noted that the deputies of the Faction will not join the proposal of the Armenia Faction with the following substantiations.
“Already eight months ago, on June 15 and 17, 2021, the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs touched upon the problem in the form of public statement and commentaries. The substantiation that the Republic of Armenia shall respond to the ratification of that Declaration in the form of the statement with the same content of the National Assembly. It is not logical, as the Parliament of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pursue and shall pursue the united foreign policy,” Gurgen Arsenyan said.
The latter underscored that toolset of the parliamentary diplomacy does not begin and does not end with the NA statements: it is really broader.
In that context the deputy has noted that the only statement of the NA Armenia Faction which relates to resuming the works in the international structures is welcoming for the Civil Contract Faction.
“We urge our colleagues to more actively get involved in all international platforms for the protection of the interests of the Republic of Armenia,” Gurgen Arsenyan noted.
The draft law was not approved by the Committee.
