Item of Having a Law on Functioning Trade Unions in Armenia Highlighted

On September 23, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs met with the officials of the California Office of the American SEIU organization. The organization is engaged with the problems of the protection of the workers’ interests.

During the meeting items concerning the legislation on Trade Unions in Armenia were discussed.

Naira Zohrabyan noted that a new model of creation and formation of the trade unions was presented by the Prosperous Armenia Faction which, unfortunately had not been approved by the parliament.

The sides have considered concerning that the human interests in Armenia have not been protected in legal terms. In this context Naira Zohrabyan has informed that in the near future debates will begin between the political forces on the item of having a law on Functioning Trade Unions.

The Director of California Office Shushan Baghbudarian has noted that 2.5mln workers are considered beneficiaries. According to the guest, the organization is ready to show necessary assistance: to promote creating a functioning network of trade unions in our country through implementing exchange of experience.
