On December 1 the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs Hrayr Karapetyan had a lecture on the theme The NA Role in the Issues of Armenia’s Defense and Security for the listeners of the senior course and more than 100 representatives of professors and leading staff members of the NATO Defense College, which is deployed in Rome.
First, Mr. Karapetyan introduced to the guests the structure and activity of the National Assembly, then he presented the parliamentary and civil control towards the defense and RA security spheres, in particular, emphasizing the adoption of the laws regulating the activity of the armed forces, the ratification of the international treaties, the approval of the state budget report, the implementation of the control of the budget through Control Chamber the mechanism of the parliamentary question and answer. The speaker also highlighted the visits of the committee members to the structures of the defense sphere, the direct contacts with the soldiers and officers, the active cooperation with the NGOs, the fulfillment of the obligations assumed by Armneia within the framework of Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan and the implementation of the reforms of the sphere in conducting the civil and parliamentary effective control towards the sphere of defense.
Hrayr Karapetyan also answered the listeners’ questions, which related to the challenges of Armenia’s national security, Armenia’s adopted stance on the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh issue through negotiations and the European integration processes being implemented in the country.
