On June 17 Mr. Artak Davtyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport of the National Assembly met with Mr. Georges Colombier, PACE Monitoring Committee Co-Rapporteur. Ambassador Mr. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, permanent representative of the Republic of Armenia to CE, participated in the meeting.
The amendments made to the mass media of Armenia and to the adjunct laws were debated during the meeting.
Mr. Artak Davtyan, Chairman of the Committee, said that all the proposals of the experts of the CE were debated and numerous amendments were made to the Laws of the Republic of Armenia on TV and Radio, on Rules of Procedure of the National Commission on Television and Radio, Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly and on State Duty, which were already debated and are in force now. Mr. Davtyan also said that the last report was received from the CE expert, where it reads that all the essential proposals of the CE experts were adopted and included in the laws.
Mr. Davtyan presented certain principle amendments done and touched upon foreseen programs.
Mr. Colombier agreed that great work was done and the legislation of the area was in compliance with the European standards, but he would like to hear the committee chairman’s view, related to A1+TV company. Mr. Davtyan said that he appreciates the professionalism of the A1+TV company and believes that they should be led by the law, i.e.A1+TV company would run only if it wins in the announced competition.
The members of the delegation of the PACE Monitoring Committee proposed to undertake certain steps for providing variety in the air.
