On September 19, the RA NA Deputy Speaker being in Saint Petersburg on a working visit had a meeting with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth Independent States (IPA CIS) Alexey Sergeev. The RA NA Representative to IPA CIS Hayk Chilingaryan also attended the meeting.

The interlocutors discussed issues relating to the participation of the RA Delegation in the upcoming IPA CIS Council sitting. Both sides highlighted the fact of the IPA CIS being as a parliamentary platform of dialogue.

Eduard Sharmazanov noted that the IPA CIS had reaffirmed its key and irreplaceable role in the development of inter-parliamentary multilateral cooperation during 25 years of its activity.

The NA Deputy Speaker highlighted the establishment of the dialogue and peace in the CIS territory, particularly noting: “We should prevent and condemn the attempts of conflicts settlement by force in the CIS territory and make targeted assessments. It is necessary to expand the constructive dialogue, but not try to destabilize the region.”

The IPA CIS Secretary General, in his turn, emphasized the Armenian parliamentarians’ role in the works of the IPA CIS. Alexey Sergeev highly assessed the activities of the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov and the NA Representative to the IPA CIS Hayk Chilingaryan in the works of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. Issues relating to the participation of the Armenian Delegation in the events dedicated to the 25^th anniversary of the IPA CIS were discussed.
