On September 6, the delegation on an official visit to Argentina, led by the RA National Assembly Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov and comprised of the NA MPs Sukias Avetisyan and Mikayel Manukyan, met with the President of the Senate of the Republic of Argentina Federico Pinedo.

The NA Deputy Speaker highlighted the establishment of tight connections with Latin American countries, particularly with Argentina , specially emphasizing parliamentary role and significance. Eduard Sharmazanov mentioned that Armenia considers Argentina to be a friendly country, the vivid proof of which is the RA President’s recent visit to the Embassy of Argentina in Armenia on the occasion of 200^th anniversary of the country’s independence. 

The interlocutors hoped that the visit will serve as an extra impetus for the further intensification and advancement of bilateral ties in revealing the potential existing in the relations of the two countries.

The NA Deputy Speaker documented with satisfaction that the cooperation between the two countries in international organizations is rather effective and there is reciprocal understanding on issues of mutual concern, as well as mutual support in backing up each other’s candidates at international instances. 

Eduard Sharmazanov highly assessed the fact that the Senate of Argentina adopted and condemned by law the Armenian Genocide in 2006. The Head of the Armenian delegation particularly noted: “The Argentine parliamentarians, recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide, say No to the Turkish denial. This kind of position by the Senate witnesses about Argentina ’s commitment to all-human values since only by recognizing and condemning the crimes of the past it is possible to prevent new crimes.” Federico Pinedo in his turn mentioned that he is proud to be the co-author of the law on the Armenian Genocide.      

Touching upon the regional issues, the NA Deputy Speaker condemned the illegal blockade of Armenia by Turkey , as well as Azerbaijan ’s bellicose policy against Artsakh.

The parties highly appreciated Armenian community’s special contribution to the shaping and strengthening the Armenian-Argentinian ties as a liaison between the two countries.
