On June 10 the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan received the Delegation led by Chen Changzhi, the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Representatives of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

Welcoming Chen Changzhi’s visit to Armenia, the NA President Galust Sahakyan expressed his condolence on the wreck of the passenger ship in the River Yangtze in the State of Khubey of China which resulted in casualties.

The NA President highlighted the Armenian-Chinese traditional friendly relations, noting that China is one of the important partners of Armenia. Galust Sahakyan has documented that the meetings of the Heads of the two countries have an important and boosting role for the progress of the inter-state and multi-lateral cooperation. In this context the Head of the parliament emphasized the state visit of the RA President Serzh Sargsyan to the PRC, which had given a new impetus for the development of the friendly relations between our countries. The NA President has noted that the inter-parliamentary cooperation between Armenia and China is at decent level. In the word of the Head of the Parliament, the activity of the Friendship Groups created in our parliaments is an important impetus for the strengthening and development of inter-parliamentary ties.

Galust Sahakyan highly assessed the positive contribution of the PRC in the provision of peace and stability and creating a secure international atmosphere in the world. He has stated that from the day of the establishment of diplomatic relations Armenia expresses consistent position of principle and supports in all issues for China, including the principle of the “United China.”

Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh problem, the NA President has said that it continues remaining of vital importance for Armenia. The Head of the Parliament thanked the Chinese side for the balanced position in the Karabakh issue and supporting the solution of the issue exclusively through peaceful means.

During the talk Galust Sahakyan, touching upon the events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial, noted that more than 600 representatives arrived from about 60 countries took part in the Global Forum held in Armenia on April 22-24 and in the commemoration ceremonies of the Genocide victims. The NA President has informed that an inter-parliamentary platform of the international cooperation “Parliaments against Genocide” has been initiated by the RA National Assembly and has stated that we call on the representatives of the parliaments of all countries to take part in the formation of this platform, taking into consideration that the MPs can have an important role in the prevention of genocides.

Thanking for the warm reception Chen Changzhi, the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the PRC People’s Representatives, expressed readiness to support the development of inter-state cooperation and the implementation of different programmes. He emphasized the development of trade turnover between Armenia and China and the activation of cooperation in the cultural and educational spheres. Chen Changzhi expressed hope that the NK conflict should be solved through peaceful means and negotiations.

Chen Changzhi invited the NA President Galust Sahakyan on an official visit to China.

At the end of the meeting Chen Changzhi left a note in the Book of Honourable Guests of the National Assembly.

In the course of the meeting other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
