Meeting in the RPA Faction
1 / 1

On November 25 Galust Sahakyan, Head of the NA RPA faction, and Eduard Sharmazanov, Secretary of the faction, met Karel Hofstra, Deputy Head of the OSCE Yerevan Office.

In the meeting issues pertaining to Armenia’s European Integration, democratization of the country and holding of the upcoming parliamentary elections were discussed.

Karel Hofstra said that their organization had initiated “a round-table” event on December 2, which would follow courses relating to the women’s participation in the political life. He asked the support of the RPA leadership in order to provide the party activists’ participation in the event.

Highlighting the theme and idea of the initiative Galust Sahakyan has ensured that 5 activist women of the party will take part in the “round table” event, adding that involving the women and the youngsters in the political life and in the sphere of the country administration is one of the most important political principles. He has said that 52 percent of the RPA members are women, and regarding the young girls, members of the party, has expressed conviction that with their activity they will have a serious role in the political life in the upcoming years. Touching upon the problem of the women’s involvement in the parliament, he has said that by their recommendation a provision has been included in the Electoral Code, according to which, at least one person out of five from the party electoral lists shall be a female candidate.

Eduard Sharmazanov has recorded that women play a serious role in their party, and the party does its best so that their participation in the political life will more increase, but at the same they are against it being of formal and artificial nature, it’s preferable to provide bigger involvement in natural way, under the conditions when the problems are maturing . Referring to the position of the party on holding fair parliamentary elections Eduard Sharmazanov has ensured that it’s done for not being amiable to the international community, but also for only developing democracy in the country, which has no alternative.

During the meeting issues concerning the compliance of the law “On Parties” with the Electoral Code and integrating the Republican Party of Armenia in the RPP was also discussed.
