On June 15 the delegation of the National Assembly to the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly presided over by Vahan Hovhannisyan, had initiated the second working discussion with the participation of the representatives of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, international and non-governmental organizations. The goal of the meeting with the parliamentarians was the discussion of the proposals by the Civil Society Forum, in particular, Armenian National Platform, on the Eastern Partnership.

Vahan Hovhannisyan, Head of the Armenian delegation to the EURONEST PA, underscored that they would work openly and transparently: this was the adopted policy, guided by which they invited both all the parties concerned and media representatives to these working discussions.

The speaker noticed that four directions of the national platform activity coincide with the fields of the EURONEST PA four standing committees. They are as follows: democracy, human rights, good governance and stability, the policy of civil society forum in the spheres of economic integration and convergence with the European Union policies, environment, climate changes and energy security and, finally, contacts with people. After receiving the proposals presented by the national platform organizations and summed up by Vache Kalashyan, Coordinator of the platform, the parliamentarians will try to prepare resolutions, as well as reports in the EURONEST. On June 21 the first meeting of the Bureau will be held, during which the scope of the issues to be discussed will be defined.

The public sector representatives welcomed the initiative of cooperating with deputies, expressing willingness to have a practical participation in preparing reports. They also noticed that this was the first manifestation of cooperation between the parliamentary delegation to the EURONEST PA and the National Platform, and it might become exemplary for other countries of the Eastern Partnership format.

Let’s also emphasize, 10 members of the Armenian delegation, according to Vahan Hovhannisyan’s assessment, are actively getting prepared first, for the works of the EURONEST PA committees, then also for the works of the plenary session to be held in autumn. The member of the delegation Khachik Harutyunyan has already prepared and submitted the draft resolution on non-cultivated agricultural lands. There are also other initiatives.
