Restoration of Armenian-Hungarian diplomatic relations highlighted

On December 1, the Head of the NA Armenia-Hungary Friendship Group, the member of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Hripsime Grigoryan highlighted the restoration of the Armenian-Hungarian diplomatic relations at the meeting with the delegation led by the deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Hungary, Armenian by origin Nikogosz Akobյan. The Head of the Friendship Group noted that there is great potential of developing the relations between the two countries in the political, as well as economic, cultural, humanitarian and educational spheres.

“We have Armenian community in Hungary, which has a status of national minority. We are very glad that the community is getting a lot of attention by the Government of Hungary. We are aware that many joint programmes are being implemented, we appreciate the initiative of the Hungarian side aimed at the preservation of the Armenian historical-cultural heritage,” the MP said. According to Hripsime Grigoryan, in recent period, dynamics is noticed in the relations of the two countries: the mutual visits witness that. The Head of the Friendship Group also emphasized the humanitarian programmes being implemented by the Government of Hungary.

Nikogosz Akobյan mentioned that they had come to Armenia, bringing with them humanitarian support (20.000 USD), which they had already conveyed to Armavir community as an assistance to about 35 families forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh, including 175 minor children. It was noted that there is a goal to improve the graves of their compatriots who died in the World War II and to install an information memorial plaque. Hripsime Grigoryan expressed readiness for supporting that process.

The member of the NA Armenia-Hungary Friendship Group, the deputy of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Mikayel Tumasyan also attached importance to the fact of restoration of the Armenian-Hungarian diplomatic relations, underlining that there is great perspective of expanding the cooperation of Friendship Groups.

The member of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Gayane Yeghiazaryan also spotlighted the expanding and deepening of parliamentary bilateral ties.

The President of Armenia-Hungary Friendship Society Anahit Simonyan, who initiated the meeting, mentioned that during the years, when the diplomatic relations were suspended between the two countries, she implemented her mission through democratic diplomacy.

During the meeting Hripsime Grigoryan referred to the foreign policy priorities, the regional security problems, the settlement process of the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the agenda for peace and the Crossroads of Peace project presented by the Government of the Republic of Armenia. The MP also spoke about the Government programmes directed to the improvement of life of our compatriots forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh.

The Head of the Armenian National Autonomy Office of Hungary László Ronaszék, the Deputy Chairman of the Armenian National Autonomy Office Artin Diramerjan and representatives of the media of Hungary took part in the meeting.
