On March 30, the Head of the RA NA Friendship Group Armenia-Iraq Rustam Bakoyan met with the Deputy Minister, Department of Foreign Relations, Kurdistan Regional Government – Iraq Daban Shadala.
Welcoming the guest, Rustam Bakoyan positively assessed the dynamics of the development of current relations between the two countries.
The interlocutors have stated that the two countries have a great potential for the cooperation in the economic sphere. Rustam Bakoyan has noted that the trade turnover between Armenia and Iraq increases year by year.
The Head of the Friendship Group Armenia-Iraq highlighted the issue of Iraq’s security, referring to the shelling held in Erbil recently.
Talking about the rights of national minorities, Rustam Bakoyan asked his counterpart a question whether the Yezidis would have quota mandates in parliament of the country.
The deputy has noted that more than 3200 Armenians live in Iraq and stated that the opening of the Consulate in Erbil last year was a very important step in the continuous strengthening of the Armenian-Iraqi relations.
The Deputy Minister, Department of Foreign Relations, Kurdistan Regional Government – Iraq Daban Shadala also highlighted the development of inter-parliamentary relations and the increase of cooperation in the economic sphere.
“Armenia is a very important country for Iraq,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.
