On March 30, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan received the Ambassador of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Armenia Nico Schermers .
Eduard Aghajanyan highly appreciated the Ambassador’s practical role in the development of the relations between Armenia and the Netherlands.
Issues regarding the deepening of cooperation between the parliaments were discussed. In this context the sides underscored the necessity of having NA Armenia-the Netherlands Friendship Group.
Speaking about the interaction between the two countries and the implementation of the joint programmes, the Committee Chair has expressed conviction that he sees considerable potential for the development of cooperation in a number of spheres.
The process of the democratic reforms in Armenia, the RA-the Netherlands cooperation in the application of the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement were touched upon.
Eduard Aghajanyan presented the current situation and the challenges in the region. The MP expressed his gratitude to the counterparts of parliaments of the Netherlands for the adoption of the resolutions condemning the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh in autumn 2020 and its aftermath. The Committee Chair considered as a most important problem the return of Armenian prisoners of war to the homeland.
Nico Schermers also highlighted the deepening of the Armenian-Dutch inter-parliamentary relations, as well as the development of cooperation in a series of spheres. The implementation of a number of programmes aimed at the full use of the toolset of the parliamentary oversight on the parliamentary platform was underlined.
