On October 21 at Al. Spendiarian State National Opera and Ballet Academic Theatre the 90^th Anniversary of the Economic Higher Education in Armenia and the 80^th Anniversary of the Armenian State University of Economics (ASUE) were marked. The President of RA National Assembly, the Chairman of the Council of the Armenian State University of Economics Hovik Abrahamyan, the Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the deputies of the National Assembly and the members of the Government attended the solemn sitting.

The rector of the Armenian State University of Economics, the member of the National Academy of Sciences, doctor of Economics Yuri Suvaryan opened the sitting. He touched upon the beginning of the economic higher education in Armenia and the further procedure, presented the passed path of the higher educational institution and the future works and programmes.

The President of RA National Assembly, the Chairman of the Council of the Armenian State University of Economics Hovik Abrahamyan made a welcoming speech. Congratulating those present on the occasion of the jubilees the President of the National Assembly noted that the 80^th anniversary was a significant age for the higher educational institution and as a Chairman of the Council, as a graduate of this higher educational institution it’s a pleasure for him that the University was meeting the jubilee with dignity, showing not only achievements consonant with today, but also a big potential for future successes.

In Hovik Abrahamyan’s words, the Armenian State University of Economics is a higher educational institution, where more than 6000 students study and more than 650 professors and staff members work. The ASUE has become a talent foundry for the economic and political system of our country, for the business world.

To have a specialist walking in pace with time and an educated society is of vital need for every country. To the conviction of the head of the parliament, the ASUE has a big potential to continue its contribution in the process of the establishment of such society.

The fame and name of every higher educational institution are formed through years. Its graduates also built this, and the ASUE in this respect occupies a special place. Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the ASUE is a higher educational institution, which with its professors and instructors could give knowledge to the students complying with modern standards and demands. “Our country has sufficient demand of economists. I wish that you, dear students, magistrates and post-graduates, would be able to turn your education into work as soon as possible because this stems not only from personal interests of the people, but also from the interests of the country and the people,” the NA President said. “I would like you to be qualified specialists and good persons, exemplary members of the society, as a guide having mutual respect, tolerance and solidarity, which we need today,”

The state should promote the development of education and science, directing means, but the business world too, making investment in science boosting the demand towards scientific researches. Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the investments in science should be beneficiary to interest the businessman. “The process of accounting this interest, perhaps, still goes on slowly among us. I am sure that it will gradually speed up, as otherwise what we say, the economy on the basis of knowledge can remain as a word play, and our economy will appear on the road edge of the global development, the Chairman of ASUE said. “As the science deeply goes into economy, so much more means the state will have to direct for education and science.” From this point of view the ASUE the educational center, which constantly feels the pulse of the economy of the country and the time. The NA President also highly assessed the professors’ contribution in teaching. “In this higher educational institution work and teach the people, who realize their mission, who believe that pedagogue’s work and the value of the knowledge never diminish and who also in some way are enthusiasts.”

The Chairman of the Council of the Armenian State University of Economics Hovik Abrahamyan wished the staff of the university professors, the students and whole staff continuous successes, achievements obtained for years, unlimited fervour and welfare. “I wish everybody to enjoy the joy of the fulfillment of your specialized aspirations, work and getting the results. And permanently remember that everybody’s problem is, first of all, to make powerful the Republic of Armenia, because in the words of Napoleon Bonaparte, love towards the Motherland is the first virtue of the civilized man,” Hovik Abrahamyan concluded.

The Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan also joined the congratulations and welcoming words.

By the decree of the RA President Serzh Sargsyan on the occasion of the jubilees a group of merited representatives were given the title of the honoured figure of science, Anania Shiraktasi medal. The NA President Hovik Abrahamyan handed the title certificates and medals. By the order of the President of the National Assembly on the occasion of the 90^th Anniversary of the Economic Higher Education in Armenia and the 80^th Anniversary of the Armenian State University of Economics, for the contribution made in the sphere of education and science, a group of instructors of the higher educational institution were awarded NA Medal of Honour, which they personally received from the head of the parliament. The Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan awarded a group of representatives of the university the Prime Minister’s medals and letters of acknowledgement.

The solemn sitting ended with the video film telling about the ASUE and concert with the participation of Tatul Altunian Song and Dance Honoured Ensemble of Armenia and gifted students of the University.
