Meeting at the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations

On June 10, the Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the RA Peter Priputen (Residence in Moscow). The General Consul of Slovakia to the RA Gagik Martirosyan also attended the meeting.

Welcoming the Ambassador’s visit Artak Zakaryan talked about the friendly relations of the two countries and considered necessary the development and deepening of the inter-parliamentary cooperation. In this context the Ambassador also has underlined that there is big potential of development between Armenia and Slovakia in trade-economic, humanitarian, cultural and other spheres.

In the course of the meeting Artak Zakaryan touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh (NK) problem, presented the events occurred on Karabakh-Azerbaijani line of contact. The Committee Chairman has noted that Armenia, unlike Azerbaijan, exclusively sees the settlement of the problem through the peaceful means on the nations’ self-determination right in the OSCE Minsk Group format. In this context Artak Zakaryan highlighted the balanced position of Slovakia in the NK conflict settlement. The Committee Chairman highly assessed the Armenian Genocide recognition by the Parliament of the Republic of Slovakia.

Artak Zakaryan also presented the works to be done in parliament after the RA Constitutional reforms.

The Ambassador has reaffirmed the position of the country in the NK problem settlement, noting that Slovakia defends the solution of the problem exclusively through peaceful means.

The interlocutors debated issues regarding the cooperation between the parliaments and its different structures of the RA and Slovakia. It has been noted that effective cooperation is implemented in different parliamentary assemblies.

Ambassador Peter Priputen conveyed the letter of the newly elected President of Slovakia to the RA NA Speaker.

During the meeting issues concerning the upcoming visit of the Speaker of Slovak Parliament to Armenia.

At the end of the meeting Peter Priputen assured that within the framework of his authorities he will support the implementation of the joint programmes of the parliaments of the two countries.
