The RA NA Deputy Speaker, the Head of Armenia-Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia Parliamentary Friendship Group Eduard Sharmazanov’s official visit to the Republic of Latvia began.
On March 13 the NA Vice President had meetings with the Deputy Speakers of Saeima of Latvia Inese Libina-Egnere, Gundars Daudze and the Saeima Secretary Andrejs Klementjevs in Riga. Eduard Sharmazanov highlighted the further rapprochement and strengthening of the Armenian-Latvian bilateral relations, particularly the cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries in terms of both in bilateral format and on international parliamentary platforms. He wished effective work to the Republic of Latvia in the presidency of the EU Council.
Touching upon the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations, the NA Deputy Speaker has condemned the behaviour of Turkey’s present authorities, recording that Turkey stubbornly continues its denial policy. Eduard Sharmazanov has expressed hope that Latvia will attend the commemoration ceremonies dedicated to the Armenian Genocide at high level. He has expressed his gratitude to the Latvian MPs for supporting the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial in the National Library of Latvia. The Deputy Speaker of Saeima of Latvia Inese Libina-Egnere in her turn has noted that Latvia understands the Armenian people’s pain.
Both sides highlighted the necessity of exclusively peaceful settlement of all conflicts.
The NA Deputy Speaker awarded the Saeima Secretary Andrejs Klementjevs the Medal of Honour of the National Assembly for the significant contribution to the strengthening and development of the Armenian-Latvian relations.
