On February 18 the members of the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union met with the members of Armenia-Great Britain Friendship Group.
Welcoming the British partners’ visit to Armenia, the Head of Armenia-Great Britain Friendship Group Karen Chshmaritian highlighted the rapprochement of the formed relations at different levels between the two countries and deepening of cooperation, deeming necessary to raise them to a new, more practical and meaningful plane.
Thanking for the warm reception John Whittingdale, Head of the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, also highlighted the further development of the relations.
At the guests' request members of Armenia-Great Britain Friendship Group Karen Chshmaritian, Levon Martirosyan, Lyudmila Sargsyan and Khachatur Kokobelyan touched upon the decision made on September 3 on Armenia's joining the Customs Union (CU) and presented the positions and viewpoints of their parties, noted the geopolitical, regional and economic motivations. As the Head of Armenia-Great Britain Friendship Group Karen Chshmaritian has noticed, making the decision on joining the Customs Union, our country also highlights the rapprochement of cooperation with the European Union, as, according to him, the EU Free Trade Agreement and the Customs Union Agreement can jointly work.
On the same day the meeting of the members of the RA NA Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union took place.
Welcoming the members of the delegation in Armenia, the NA Deputy Speaker Hermine Naghdalyan highly assessed their work in the development of bilateral relations, as well as the inter-parliamentary relations.
The NA Deputy Speaker highly assessed the deepening of relations with Great Britain, within bilateral format, as well as within the framework of international organizations.
John Whittingdale, Head of the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, thanked for the warm reception, and has noted that they understand Armenia's decision of joining the CU, and nevertheless, they highlight continuing the relations with Armenia aimed at developing and deepening them.
The members of the NA Delegation Naira Zohrabyan and Heighine Bisharyan also emphasized the cooperation of the two countries in the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the development and deepening of relations, as well as the activation of the inter-parliamentary relations.
