On May 8 the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Environment of the National Assembly initiated debates, related to Mr. Viktor Dallakyan’s authorized law on Hunt and Running the Hunting Economy and the legislative package foreseeing Amendments and Addenda to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. For the first time it was debated for the first procedure of the first reading during the last sitting of the parliament, but was not yet voted on.
Members of Parliament, representatives of the Department Bodies, Hunting Unions and Nature Protection Organizations were invited to participate in the debates. Mr. Khachik Harutyunyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Environment of the National Assembly, said that the drafts as a results of those debates would become more complete and be in touch with reality.
Mr. Viktor Dallakyan, presenting the bills, talked on the necessity of strengthening the struggle against poaching. Those present expressed opinion that more strict penalties should be defined, as today the fauna needs protection, as some kinds of animals are under threat of extinction.
The proposals formulated as a result of the debates would be presented to the author of the draft.The law on Fauna will regulate the provisions, related to a number of issues on birds and animals.
