On September 4 Mrs. Hranush Hakobyan, Chair of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, met with those who are responsible for the program “The Path of Book ”, submitted by Armenia within the framework of the Cultural Routes programme of the 4-th main directorate of the Council of Europe on Culture Affairs and Cultural and Natural Heritage.

The program is an important manual on the European cultural integration with the participation of the nine countries. Ms. Françoise Tondren, Responsible for the Cultural Routes programme, Ms. Roberta Albertoza, Adviser to the Cultural Routes programme, and Emil Danielyan, President of the NGO, Coordinator of the programme, were on the delegation at the National Assembly with the purpose of discussion of the programme.

Mrs. Hakobyan highly assessing that circumstance that the СЕ gives a great importance to the cultural programs, noted, that the program is welcomed and it is also necessary to direct the questions of the culture in the right way in a view of the features of each nation.

She emphasized the importance of finding the ways to make children love reading books, for this purpose she considered that the book printing should be of high quality, making the books attractive and interesting. She noted that it is necessary to propagandize the importance of the book in mass media, in particular, on TV, to resolve the problems of the libraries, to increase their base.

Mrs. Hakobyan informed that the adoption of the law on Libraries is envisaged. She also noted that the sum assigned for publishing books in the budget increases from year to year.

The members of the European delegation proposed Mrs. Hakobyan to become a member of their Executive Commission. The proposal was accepted.
