The parliamentary delegation took part in the events dedicated to the 80^th anniversary of Battle of Stalingrad in Volgograd. The Chair of the Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment Protection Vahe Ghalumyan, the NA deputies Aleksey Sandikov and Matevos Asatryan are in the delegation.

Within the framework of the visit the parliamentarians met with the Head of Volgograd City Duma Alexander Bloshkin, the Head of the Region Andrey Bocharov. Issues related to the development of Armenian-Russian relations in a number of spheres were discussed, the necessity for expanding inter-regional partnership between the two countries was underlined. The fact that in this difficult period of time the Armenian official delegation and the Armenian community were represented at all events was highlighted.

A meeting with the local Armenian community was also held. The weighty role that the Armenian community has in the projects aimed at the bilateral inter-regional cooperation and in the public-political life of the region was noted.

The victory of Stalingrad became a turning point for the Great Patriotic War. The Armenians had great contribution in that battle: 30,000 Armenian sons participated in those battles, 10,000 out of them were killed. More than half of the participants of the battles were awarded orders and medals. The reconstruction project of Volgograd was carried out led by Armenian Architect Karo Halabyan.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Russia Vagharshak Harutyunyan also participated in the events.
