Addenda to RA Law on Military Service and Serviceman’s Status Are Proposed
We’ll clear with this draft a respectable list: 18 football players, 2 basketball players, who were playing before in the national teams of the Republic of Armenia, and now they have a problem with law. In their countries they are regularly detained: the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Karen Giloyan said presenting the draft law on Making Addenda to the law on Military Service and Serviceman’s Status.
The draft law solves the problem of the persons to be exempted from the military service, who being a citizen of another state, received citizenship of Armenia, were invited to the Republic of Armenia for taking part in the sport events, however for some circumstances have been out of the national team of the Republic of Armenia or do not participate in any competition under the Armenian flag, and according to the RA law are subject to conscription.
According to the Deputy Minister, it is proposed to add the Article 21.5 by 5.1 and 5.2 paragraphs with the following content: “The citizen, who as a foreign citizen received citizenship of the Republic of Armenia to compete or play in the national team of the Republic of Armenia of any sports (any age group) and until May 1, 2021 has lost the right of deferment from the compulsory military service. To be exempted from the compulsory military service the citizen or the relevant federation applies to an authorized body of the state administration in the sphere of sport until October 1, 2022, which within one month clarifies the compliance of the presented documents with this Article 5.1 and presents a mediation to the RA Ministry of Defense, which exempts the citizen from the compulsory military service after receiving the mediation of the state administration authorized body within one-month.”
The NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security endorsed the draft.
