On December 11, the RA NA Vice President Vahe Enfiajyan met with the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Shombi Sharp.

Welcoming the guest in parliament Vahe Enfiajyan highlighted the effective activities of the UN Office in all spheres and thanked Shombi Sharp for the humanitarian aid shown during the crisis conditioned by the coronavirus in our country, as well as during the war unleashed against Artsakh by Azerbaijan with the support of Turkey.

Vahe Enfiajyan has documented that often the problem of Nagorno Karabakh conflict is presented as a territorial dispute, but in reality, it is a fight to self-determination, and it is an issue of realisation of human rights. In this context, he emphasized the format of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament has underlined the practical participation of the UN in the problem that is of priority for Armenia – in the issue of the prisoners’ secure and dignified return.

In connection with the problem of preservation of Artsakh cultural heritage Vahe Enfiajyan considered important the fight against acts of vandalism being committed towards them, expressing hope that the UNESCO also would make efforts for saving the historical-cultural heritage.

The NA Vice President also attached importance to the role of the structure in the processes of settling the post-war situation.

Shombi Sharp has noted that the UN in Armenia tries to be useful as much as possible in the hard times created for Armenia. He has informed that the organization implements works in different directions. Shombi Sharp touched upon the violation of human rights, the use of illegal weapon and cluster bombs and the fact-finding works being done on them and the humanitarian mission being shown to Artsakh. According to the UN Resident Coordinator, the UN is going to continue its mission – show humanitarian aid to the persons suffered from the conflict. Shombi Sharp also stressed the deepening of cooperation between the UN in Armenia and the National Assembly, underscoring the key importance of collaboration.
