On December 8 in the RA National Assembly the joint press conference of the NA President and Danilo Astori, the Vice President of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, the President of the Senate, was held.
The RA NA President Galust Sahakyan noted that he had a rather long talk with Danilo Astori about the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. According to him, during the recent years much is spoken that who doesn’t accept the fact of the Genocide becomes the participant of genocide. Condemning that phenomenon and the position of the Turkish authorities, the Head of the parliament has noted that Turkey has no right to make the new generation of Turkey participant of the Armenian Genocide. Mr Sahakyan has expressed hope that in future Turkey will accept the Armenian Genocide, and however he has not deemed it feasible now.
The Vice President of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, the President of the Senate Danilo Astori has noted that he is inspired by the warm reception of Armenia, which witnesses of the friendly and good relations between the two countries. According to the President of the Senate, the beginning of those relations has already been laid in 1920, when Uruguay has supported the membership of Armenia to the League of Nations. Then the Armenian-Uruguayan relations have turned into an important phase, when Uruguay recognized the Armenian Genocide in 1965 and in 1991 the independence of the Republic of Armenia.
Danilo Astori has assured that they wish to continue the relations with Armenia in the political, economic, cultural and other spheres, which will more strengthen the bilateral relations.
As a small country Uruguay is for the solution of conflicts in peaceful and fair means, preserves those values and wishes to have good relations with all countries of the world. Touching upon the recognition of independence of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, Mr Astori has noted that their country works in that direction.
The Presidents of the parliaments of the two countries also answered the journalists’ questions.
