On May 6 the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan received Mario Godinho de Matos, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to RA.

Congratulating the Ambassador on assuming the post and wishing him success the NA President expressed hope that during his tenure the relations between the two countries would move upwards and assured him that as President of the RA National Assembly, he would support the implementation of the initiatives directed to the activation of the Armenian-Portuguese relations. From the view of the development and enlargement of bilateral ties the NA President deemed important the activation of inter-parliamentary relations and in that context noted that in future Armenia-Portugal Friendship Group would be formed in the Armenian Parliament.

Thanking Galust Sahakyan for reception the Ambassador of Portugal congratulated him on being elected NA President and assured that during his tenure he would do his best to develop and deepen the political and economic relations of the two friendly countries. In terms of the development of the relations of Armenia and Portugal he also deemed important and necessary the development of relations between the national parliaments, the mutual visits and bilateral contacts.

In the course of the meeting the interlocutors discussed other issues of bilateral interest, highlighted the mutually beneficial and effective cooperation in international organizations.
