On October 5, the parliament continued the work of the four-day sittings.
At the beginning of the sitting the RA NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan congratulated the teachers on the Teachers’ Day, including also the pedagogue deputies, wishing them health and all the best.
Afterwards the MPs welcomed the lecturers and the students of Yerevan Northern University who visited the parliament within the framework of the NA Open Doors programme and were observing the sitting.
Then the deputies continued debating the issue of the election of the Chairman of the RA Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
In her extraordinary speech the NA Deputy Speaker Hermine Naghdalyan has noted that the CEC is a only a tool to sum up the results of the election and present them to the public. In Hermine Naghdalyan’s word, the CEC should act according to legal regulations. In this context the NA Deputy Speaker noticed that the CEC could have any influence on the electoral results. She also touched upon the local self-government elections held during the last days and their results.
The MPs Sukias Avetisyan, Zaruhi Postanjyan, Ishkhan Khachatryan, Artak Zakaryan, Naira Zohrabyan referred to the issues under debate.
In their final speeches CEC Chairman candidacy Tigran Mukuchyan and the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on State and legal Affairs Hovhannes Sahakyan talked about the deputies’ recommendations and the political positions voiced in their speeches.
Afterwards the parliament debated the issue of the election of the CEC members.
Hovhannes Sahakyan informed that in the positions of the CEC members were proposed the candidacies of Laura Haykaz Galstyan, Armen Volodya Smbatyan, Seyran Nikolay Shahsuvaryan, Nune Surik Hovhannisyan, Georgy Laert Martirosyan and Silva Suren Markosyan.
The candidacies for the CEC members presented their vision of the implementation and organization of the electoral redtape conditioned by the new approaches of the RA Electoral Code and talked about the upcoming works of the Committee.
The debate of the issue will continue at October 6 sitting of the National Assembly.
In accordance with the law the NA Rules of Procedure, at the last sitting the members of the RA Government answered the deputies’ questions.
