On April 30, the Delegation of the NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs led by Koryun Nahapetyan was in Gyumri on a working visit.

Within the framework of the visit the Parliamentary Delegation first visited Kumayri and Mush divisions of Shirak Marz Department of RA Police, aiming at familiarized with the problems on the spot. The deputies accompanied by the Head of Shirak Marz Deprtament Sargis Martirosyan took a tour in the Police Sub-divisions, got acquainted with the housing conditions, the reforms going on in the system and the office activities. The NA deputies were interested in the results of the legislative reforms of the sphere, refurbishment of technical means and the implementation of steps promoting the strengthening of the citizens’ trust towards police.

The members of the Committee have also been in the Community Police Service of Mush Division.

Afterwards the members of the Committee visited the State Non-Commercial Organization Seismic Defense Northern Service of the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) and met with the directorate and employees of the division. During the discussion the necessity of the technical refurbishment of the service and system modernization, the implementation of the seismic risk assessment works and other problems of the sphere. In the future Koryun Nahapetyan expressed readiness to meet in parliament and discuss the problems.

The MPs’ next stop was Gyumri Crisis Management Centre (CMC) of the Rescue Service of the RA MES. The members of the Committee accompanied by the Head of the Rescue Department of Shirak Marz Marat Saribekyan got familiarized with the technical refurbishment and possibilities, the working and housing conditions of the structure.

The employees of the CMC informed the deputies that the Centre Meteorological System allows registering the seismic activity of the marz, forecast the weather conditions, which is registered on the CMC monitors. The GPS system functions in the centre, through which one can see on the monitors the place of the first aid or rescue machine, which allows the crew accurately orientating to what direction to move.

Afterwards the members of the Committee visited the Frontier Detachment of the RF Security Federal Service, after which to the border picket. In the Frontier Detachment the members of the Committee were presented samples of available armament, communication machines, and in the border picket they witnessed the border control, the discovery of the trespasser and the exhibition exercise of deactivation.

The Commander of the Frontier Detachment of the RF Security Federal Service Maxim Gustyak presented the readiness of the Frontier Detachment and the Armenian-Turkish border control.

Highlighting similar visits and observations Koryun Nahapetyan underlined that we should do utmost to have our border defense reliable and firm.

Let us note that about 95 years the border-guards control about 132 km section of the Armenian-Turkish border. Armenian servicemen also serve with the Russian servicemen.

At the end of the visit Koryun Nahapetyan as Head of Armenia-Italy Friendship Group, met with the Honourable Consul of Italy to Armenia Antonio Montalto (residence Gyumri). The Mayor of Gyumri Samvel Balasanyan also attended the meeting.

Koryun Nahapetyan and the members of the Friendship Group highly assessed the Consul’s contribution to the development of the Armenian-Italian relations and his devoted activities in our country and expressed hope that Mr Montalto’s efforts in this issue will be continuous.

The Head of the Friendship Group highlighted the programmes initiated by the Consul in the spheres of healthcare, culture and tourism in Armenia, as well as in Nagorno Karabakh.

Koryun Nahapetyan has noted that the Friendship Group contributes to the development of the relations between the two friendly peoples and presented the Group’s Action Plan and the works to be done.

Antonio Montalto in his turn presented certain programmes, which will promote more development of the relations between the two countries. He has added that as a result of the joint work with the RA authorities, numerous initiatives become possible to carry out.

In the course of the meeting other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
