On May 22-28 the delegation led by the Speaker of the RA National Assembly Galust Sahakyan will be in Canada on an official visit.

On May 23 the delegation met with the representatives of the Armenian Canadian community. In the course of the meeting Galust Sahakyan has noted that he highlights the contact with the Armenian community, and that is the reason that while making up the program of every visit meetings with the representatives of the Armenian community are designed. During all the meetings the NA Speaker gladly listens to their problems and concerns, and if necessary, voices them talking to the authorities of the given state.

At the meeting Galust Sahakyan presented in detail the implementing legislative reforms in the Republic of Armenia, noting that after the accession to the EEC works of complying with the harmonization of the legislation are going on.

Galust Sahakyan gladly answered the questions concerning the Armenian Canadians. Speaking about the events of the Armenian Genocide Centennial the NA Speaker has stated that now in parliament a Parliamentary Commission ‘Against Genocides’ is created which will address to the parliaments of the progressive countries of the world to create similar commissions.

In the NA Speaker’s word, this initiative will promote the solution of the fair demand of our country, our nation: according to him, it is not possible to reach success in this very way.

Galust Sahakyan also met with the Mayor of Montreal Denis Coderre. During the meeting the RA NA Speaker thanked him for the warm reception, noting that he had been glad seeing the Mayor of Montreal, the sister city of Yerevan, and is well aware of the effective cooperation of the Mayors of Yerevan and Montreal.

Galust Sahakyan has also stated that he is impressed with the march of crowd of thousands that has taken place in Montreal. The participants went out to the streets to condemn the Armenian Genocide.

The Mayor of Montreal emphasized the friendly relations of Yerevan and Montreal and the cooperation in numerous spheres.

Afterwards the Head of the parliament and the Mayor of Montreal took a tour in the yard of the Municipality, where within the framework of the Armenian Genocide Centennial a forget-me-not had been made with the corresponding writing.

The Speaker of the RA National Assembly laid flowers at the monument of Montreal dedicated to the Armenian Genocide.

The delegation led by the NA Speaker visited the Primacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese and then took part in the Divine Liturgy.
