Galust Sahakyan Receives the Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Senate of Mexico
1 / 4

On May 21 the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan received Gabriela Cuevas Barron, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of Mexico.

Welcoming the geust in the parliament, the NA President has noted that the two countries have big potential in the political, economic, scientific and cultural spheres for having close cooperation. In that context Galust Sahakyan has expressed his satisfaction with the development of the cultural ties between Armenia and Mexico. He has highlighted the activation of the political dialogue between the two countries, underlining the readiness of the Armenian side in the establishment of the inter-parliamentary relations and has documented that Armenia-Mexico Friendship Group has been set up in our parliament.

The NA President has stated that Armenia emphasizes the cooperation also in the international arena. Afterwards, touching upon the Armenian Genocide Centennial, he stated that some days ago in Yerevan a global forum “Against Genocide as a Crime” was held, where numerous representatives of different countries of the world took part. In the NA President’s opinion, the MPs have prior role in condemnation and prevention of similar crimes.

Talking about the NK conflict, Galust Sahakyan reaffirmed Armenia’s position of solving the conflict through peaceful means.

The NA President has also touched upon the resolutions adopted by the Upper and Lower Chambers of the parliament of Mexico in 2011, which relate to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and oppose the positions of the international community and negotiating process. Galust Sahakyan expressed his concern over the adoption of such resolutions in Mexico, in a country giving priority by Constitution of the right of the peoples’ free self-determination.

The NA President expressed hope that Mrs Cuevas Barron’s visit will promote the development of the inter-parliamentary relations.

Gabriela Cuevas Barron in her word has noted that it is the very time to expand and make closer the relations of the two countries, as the Mexican and Armenian peoples have many historical generalities. In the development of relations she has emphasized the opening of the Embassy of Armenia to Mexico.

Mrs Cuevas Barron has noted that the Mexicans always fought for the protection of human rights, affirming it by law.

At the end of the meeting Gabriela Cuevas Barron expressed hope that the memorandum signed in the National Assembly will become a new beginning of the Armenian-Mexican relations, contributing to the friendship of the two peoples.
