1 / 3

The RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan took part in the press conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the Eastern Partnership Member States within the framework of the conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the European Union Member States.

In his word the RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan noted in particular: “The Republic of Armenia has done a great deal of work and has accumulated a rich experience as a result of cooperation with the European Union during the recent years. Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union does not mean at all weakening or suspension of cooperation with the European organizations. Armenia continues to be committed to the European values and principles, and we are resolute to enlarge and deepen the process of institutional reforms together with the European partners aimed at the continuous strengthening of  democracy, human rights and rule of law. With the joint statement adopted in 2013 Vilnius Summit Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen the cooperation in the spheres of bilateral interest and in the near future works are designed over the formation of the new format of cooperation of Armenia-European Union.”

Touching upon the situation created in Ukraine Hovik Abrahamyan said: “Throughout centuries the Armenian and Ukrainian peoples are united with firm links of brotherhood and centuries-old friendship. We are convinced that the Ukrainian people have big potential to overcome facing challenges.”

Speaking about regional problems and particularly, the NK problem, the NA Speaker has noted that Armenia repeatedly has stated that it adheres to the settlement of the NK conflict absolutely through peaceful negotiations under the auspice of the triple-presidency of the OSCE Minsk Group and within the internationally recognized 3 principles: self-determination of nations, territorial integrity or non-use of force or threat of force. “We’ll continue our efforts in solving the conflict through negotiations,” Hovik Abrahamyan said.
