At NA Standing Committee

On May 4 a regular sitting of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs presided by Rafik Petrosyan.


The Deputy Justice Minister Tigran Mukuchyan submitted the Government initiated bill “RA Family Code” to the Committee in the first reading, having as basis the authorized legislative initiatives of NA MPs Rafik Petrosyan, Karen Karapetyan, Viktor Dallakyan, Armen Danielyan, Hovhannes Margaryan and Yerevan State University professor Gegham Karakhanyan.

The procedures of marriage, divorce, child adoption, directing alimony and restrictions of parents’ rights are presented in new way in the draft law of the “Family Code.”


Medical examination of the married is also envisaged by the voluntary principle and by the will of the other married.

The marriage age was defined 18 for men and women, but as to the Committee Chairman Rafik Petrosyan, the marriage age for women 17 is preferable.

The YSU professor Gegham Karakhanyan spoke about the bill and presented his comments and proposals.

By the presentation of Tigran Mukuchyan the MPs discussed also the Government initiated draft law “On the Acts of Civil State” and “On Gambling and Casinos” authorized by MPs Ashot Arsenyan and Hermine Naghdalyan. By the last draft law it was proposed to amend the law “On Gambling and Casinos” and allows organizing casinos in the health resort zones - in Dilijan, Tsaghkadzor, Jermuk and Sevan.

The Committee endorsed all discussed bills and guaranteed to include them on the NA forthcoming three-day sitting agenda.
