On June 9 the RA National Assembly President Hovik Abrahamyan received Ruprecht Polenz, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy of the FRG Bundestag. Artak Zakaryan, Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and Artak Davtyan, Head of Armenia-Germany Friendship Group attended the meeting.
The NA President documented with satisfaction that during the last years the Armenian-German political dialogue and cooperation had obtained dynamic nature. “Armenia highlights the development of relations with Germany both in bilateral and multilateral formats. We observe the Armenian-German cooperation as an important component in the general context of Armenia’s Euro-integration policy, taking into account Germany’s weighty role in the European Union structures,” Mr Abrahamyan noted. To the NA President’s conviction in the rapprochement of relations between the two countries a big role is reserved to the parliaments, and in that context the necessity of enlivening the inter-parliamentary relations, activating the works of the parliamentary friendship groups, as well as the cooperation over the issues of bilateral interest in international organizations was emphasized. In the NA President’s word, Armenia is greatly interested in continuous development and deepening of trade-economic relations with Germany.
Ruprecht Polenz thanked for warm reception and congratulated Hovik Abrahamyan on being re-elected NA President. He also highlighted the development and deepening of the Armenian-German relations more and more.
During the meeting the parties touched upon regional problems, the NA conflict settlement and Armenian-Turkish relations. The NA President noted that Armenia had repeatedly announced that the Karabakh problem should be settled only within the OSCE Minsk Group framework, through peaceful negotiations and was adherent to its position. To Mr Polenz’s conviction also, the problem should be solved within the Minsk Group framework.
In the course of the meeting other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
