Regular “Open Lesson” in the Parliament
1 / 4

On March 1 within the framework of the “Open Lesson” programme of the National Assembly the Speaker of the National Assembly Samvel Nikoyan hosted the pupils and teachers of about three dozens of schools of Tavush Marz and Yerevan. The NGO “Bridge of Hope” had initiated the pupils’ meeting with the NA Speaker.

Before meeting the Speaker of the Parliament the pupils watched the NA sitting and witnessed the debates connected with the voting of the bills, on which the NA Speaker gave clarifications.

Welcoming the pupils’ visit to the parliament Samvel Nikoyan has noted that such meetings with the pupils and students are useful, as their concerning issues refer to the youth and their future, besides they get opportunity of following the legislators’ work, of self-expression and developing knowledge.

During the warm and sincere talk the young people addressed a number of questions concerning them and their friends to the NA Speaker, which mainly related to the problems of education, the protection of the children’s rights and persons with limited possibilities. Armen Mirakyan was interested in the fact that there were no conditions in the parliament for the move of the persons with limited capabilities, in response to that the NA Speaker clarified that not only in the NA, but also in all state bodies, in other institutions proper conditions should be in order every citizen could easily move. He has noticed that though obligatory provision of those conditions is imposed by the law, rather big financial means and time are needed for its implementation. The problem is also in place for the schools built in the Soviet times: today, however, those necessary conditions are being provided in the educational institutions under construction.

One of the pupils, Artur Aslikyan, was interested in the possibility of changes in the sphere of education in future, as it happened during the last years, when the basic and high schools were created. The NA Speaker has said that nowadays steps are taken to improve the educational model in compliance with the international educational system.

A group of questions referred to the lack of laboratories, gym halls at schools, the problem of educational institutions, awareness of the children’s rights.

Anahit Bakhshyan, member of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, attended the meeting.
