Parliament Continues the Work

At September 15 sitting the National Assembly adopted the legislative initiatives, which were debated on the previous day, later it continued the debate of the draft law on Making Amendments and Addenda to RA Law on State Allowances and two adjacent draft laws. The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Social Affairs noted that the committee endorsed the package.

The NA Vice Speaker Arevik Petrosyan presented for debate the package prepared by her and deputy Goharik Yenokyan on Civil Status Acts, on State Local-Government, on State Local-Government in the City of Yerevan and on Making Amendments and State Duty.

The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Aram Safaryan presented the endorsement of the deputies’ legislative initiative.

The NA Vice Speaker Samvel Nikoyan proposed to make an addendum in the law on RA Holidays and Memorial Days, marking October 5 as Teacher’s Day by state. According to him, the Teacher’s Day is included in the list of the international days marked by the UN, more than 100 countries celebrate it. And as a professional holiday it was founded by UNESCO in 1994. The NA Vice Speaker finds more expedient to fix the Teacher’s Day not by the decision of the Government, as it is now, but by law. The member of the Head Committee on NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Artak Zakaryan endorsed the draft law. In their speeches the deputies spoke about strengthening the school, raising the teacher’s role, and presenting him/her in the social value system.

The deputies were proposed to pass the initiative of the Government on Making Amendments and Addenda on State Duty in the second reading.

The ARF Faction deputy Ara Nranyan presented the legislative initiative of the deputies, who propose amendments in the RA Code on Administrative Infringements, in the RA Criminal Code and on Licensing.

The Deputy Minister of Justice Gevorg Malkhasyan considered acceptable in the name of the government the deputies’ proposal.

The debate of the issue will continue the last day of the next sittings at September 16 sitting.

On Wednesday, at the last sitting, in accordance with the procedure of the NA Rules of Procedure, the deputies addressed questions to the members of the government.
