On July 4 RA National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan visited Tavush Marz. The Chief of Staff of the National Assembly Gegham Gharibjanyan  The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Artur Grigoryan, the Governor of Tavush Marz Armen Ghularyan, deputies from Tavush Marz Mikael Vardanyan, Gagik Melikyan, Hakob Hakobyan and other officials accompanied him..

In Marz center the RA National Assembly Speaker took part in the official opening ceremony of SOS-Children’s Village. In 2010 is the 20th year of the creation of SOS-Children’s Village Armenian Benevolent funds. This event also coincided with the start of the activities of the newly built SOS-Children’s Village in Ijevan. The delegation of SOS-Kinderdorf International led by the Chairman of the organization Helmut Kutin arrived in Armenia.

Today there are 500 SOS-Children’s Village funds in about 130 countries, where 78.000 one sided or two-sided parentless children live. After 1988 Gyumri disastrous earthquake in 1990 the above mentioned organization built the first SOS-Children’s Village in Kotayk village of Kotayk Marz, where the children, who became orphans as a result of earthquake, settled. In 2002 a memorandum was signed between the SOS-Kinderdorf International and RA Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, according to which, the second SOS-Children’s Village was also built in Ijevan. The Ijevan village is envisaged for 91 children of age 3-18. According to preliminary data, it already has 18 residents. The total sum of the construction of the village is about 2,5m USD.

The official opening ceremony of Ijevan SOS-Children’s Villageturned into joy with participation of adults and children, officials and ordinary citizens. As the Chairman of the Trustees’ Board of the SOS-Children’s Village Armenian Benevolent fund Ashot Yesayan noted: “We are witness of unique reality, which put together the charitable efforts of different nations, thousands of people. The result of it is this complex.” The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Artur Grigoryan, the Governor of Tavush Armen Ghularyan, the Ambassador of FRG to Armenia Hans-Jochen Schmidt addressed words of congratulations and gratitude, highly assessing the humanitarian mission of SOS-Kinderdorf International organization.

“It’s a great honour for me to take part in this mission. Our children have always been at the center of attention of the authorities,” RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan said. He considers joyful that there are organizations, which try to help the children: “The authorities of the Republic of Armenia highly assess the activities of SOS-Kinderdorf International led by Helmut Kutin.” The chairman of SOS-Kinderdorf International Helmut Kutin was awrded Medal of Honor of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia by RA NA President’s decree for long-lasting humanitarian benevolent mission, huge contribution and investments and on the occasion of 20th anniversary of its activities in the Republic of Armenia. Hovik Abrahamyan personally handed it to the chairman of SOS-Kinderdorf International.

Expressing his gratitude for the award Helmut Kutin noted: “This is one of the most wonderful days for me. It’s a great honour for me to deserve the NA medal.” He called on the NA Spaekr and deputies to hold once a year the sittings of the parliament in the children’s village. Hovik Abrahamyan promised from his side that during the parliamentary autumn session within the framework of Open Doors programme being held on NA Speaker’s initiative the children of SOS-Children’s village will be invited to NA sitting. The Head of the Parliament expressed willingness to take part in development programme expecting a concrete proposal of support.

The Ijevan Children’s village was built by the French SOS-Children’s villages. The representative of the French SOS-Children’s villages Pierre Legrand suggested that the children would have godfathers, to which the NA Speaker positively responded.

After the official opening ceremony Hovik Abrahamyan walked around the children’s village, got acquainted with the children’s living conditions, visited the buildings envisaged for residence. The NA Speaker talked in free atmosphere with the residents of the Children’s Village, and the friendship created on the spot ‘was ratified’ with a joint photo.

RA National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan visited Haghartsin church complex. With about 5m USD allocated by Emir of Sharzha, sheikh Sultan ben Muhammad al Kasim, here repairing works are being implemented. RA National Speaker is in the sources of that program, a few years ago, when Hovik Abrahamyan was Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Territorial Administration Minister, personally met the Emir oif Sharzha, laid the bases of the programme. The Head of the Parliament walked around in the church complex, got acquainted with the works done and being done, got aware of programee procedure, and expressed willingness to support the works.

The visit to Haghartsin ended with symbolic candle lighting and the prayer voiced under the old arches of the complex.
